Kingaroy… AQ & Early Days are headed your way!

AQ and Early Days are heading to the Kingaroy & Districts RSL Club on Monday 5 to Wednesday 7 September 2022 for three days of autism-related workshops.

These workshops offer a range of autism-related topics designed for audiences including parents/carers, therapists, educators/teachers, teacher aides, school staff, OHSC staff, and other professionals working with and supporting children on the autism spectrum.

Autism & Anxiety

Who is delivering this workshop? Autism Queensland

Target audience: Parents/carers and professionals working with and supporting children on the autism spectrum.

When: 3:30pm-5:30pm, Monday 5 September 2022

Cost: $105.00 (early bird) / $125.00 (standard)

Topics will include:

  • Understanding the functional impact of autism and anxiety.
  • Practical and positive strategies to support the young person’s anxiety.

Advocating for Your Child on the Autism Spectrum

Who is delivering this workshop? Autism Queensland

Target audience: Parents/carers of children on the autism spectrum.

When: 6:30pm-8:30pm, Monday 5 September 2022

Cost: $95.00 (early bird) / $110.00 (standard)

Topics will include:

  • Understanding your child’s rights and ensuring your/your child’s voice is heard.
  • Working positively and proactively with your child’s network (school, community etc).
  • Where to go for support/information.

Who is delivering this workshop? Early Days

Target audience: Parents/carers of young children (ages 0-6) on the autism spectrum or those who have concerns about their child.

When: 9:30am-2:00pm, Tuesday 6 September 2022

Cost: FREE (however you must register for your free ticket using the button below)

This interactive session will help you:

  • Understand what autism is, and what it means for your child and your family.
  • Develop practical strategies that can make a difference to your child’s development.
  • Understand early intervention services and supports for your family.

Inclusive Strategies for Students on the Autism Spectrum

Who is delivering this workshop? Autism Queensland

Target audience: School staff, teachers, parents/carers and other professionals working with children on the autism spectrum.

When: 3:30pm-5:30pm, Tuesday 6 September 2022

Cost: $105.00 (early bird) / $125.00 (standard)

Topics will include:

  • Educational needs of students on the autism spectrum (universal design for learning).
  • Inclusive and practical strategies to support students on the autism spectrum.
  • Peer-mediated supports.

Reframing School Refusal

Who is delivering this workshop? Autism Queensland

Target audience: Teachers, teacher aides, school staff and other professionals working with and supporting children on the autism spectrum. Parents/carers of children on the spectrum may also be interested in attending this workshop.

Topics will include:

  • Circumstances in which school refusal behaviours may arise.
  • Practical and positive responses to school refusal behaviours.

  • Are strengths focused:  We strive to support the development of every person’s potential, recognising that a strengths focus enables growth and empowers decision making and self-advocacy.
  • Use neurodiverse affirming language and approaches: Neurodiversity is part of human diversity and it doesn’t need fixing.  Our workshops and webinars embrace, understand and celebrate all people and their right to belong and participate meaningfully.
  • Provide a safe space: Everyone is welcome to attend and we provide and promote safe and respectful people and spaces to ensure you are comfortable within our workshop.
  • Are co-designed with individuals with lived experience of autism.

Early Days Workshops are:
  • FREE for parents and other family members of young children (0-6 years) who are on the autism spectrum or those who have concerns about their child.
  • Held in small groups and give families opportunities to share ideas with each other.
  • Run by highly skilled and experienced early childhood professionals.
