AQ Distance Education looking to include high school in 2025
15 Aug 2024
Plans are underway to expand Autism Queensland's Distance Education program to years 7-8 in 2025 and 9-10 in 2026.
The Distance Education program currently caters for students in Years 3-6, but due to a steady growth in student numbers and demand for supports in the secondary school years, AQ School is now seeking expressions of interest in enrolment (subject to confirmation of accreditation) from parents whose children will enter Years 7-10 in 2025 and onwards.
Enrolment in AQ School Distance Education is an option for students who meet Student With Disability (SWD) eligibility criteria and are
unable to attend one of the Education and Therapy Centres located in Brisbane at Brighton and Sunnybank Hills and in Cairns at Edmonton. Enrolment priority is given to students who live in a regional or remote location.
AQ School’s Distance Education provides students with the opportunity to engage remotely with AQ School’s interdisciplinary team to access a highly personalised educational program. Technology plays a part in providing a flexible and individualised distance education program.
The current Years 3-6 students engage in Australian Curriculum Learning Areas of English, Maths and HPE with other Learning Areas included in their individual student programs, schedules, and interactive digital workbooks. The curriculum content, instruction and learning resources are provided and supported by an interdisciplinary team and accessed by student and the home supervisor online.
Each student has a Personalised Learning Plan (PLP) which is developed collaboratively with the student, their family and their AQ School team. The student’s PLP details key strategies and adjustments to address barriers to learning and engagement.
Extensive educational adjustments, curriculum access, interactive learning activities, and flexible engagement supports are provided to increase access to and engagement with learning and with others.
