Services for young children
Autism Queensland’s purpose-built Centre of Excellence Far North Queensland is located in Edmonton and is the region’s only specialist ASD early intervention centre. We deliver services to young children with a diagnosis of ASD and their families living in Cairns, Atherton, Innisfail, Weipa and surrounding areas. This team includes teachers and teacher aides, speech pathologists, occupational therapist and psychologist.
Early Childhood Intervention Group Program
Early childhood intervention group programs support children to develop the skills necessary for successful participation in home and community life and for successful transition into the next stage of their education. Children attend two days a week, 9am-2.30pm during school terms, for a minimum of 12 months.

Group Programs
Early Start Denver Model (ESDM)
The ESDM is an early intervention model for children under 5 years designed to target the key features of autism involving intensive teaching within a play-based curriculum.
Social Skills Program
Week-long, small group sessions for children aged 5–17 years that focuses on using the group environment to teach and reinforce a range of social skills including coping with stress and frustration, communicating and making friends. Children are grouped according to age, skills & individual goals.
