BRISBANE

Cool Conversations Social Skills Program 

A short-term program for children aged eight years and over to help with conversation and social skills. Children attend for two hours daily over a week (10 hours total). We can help your child build strategies to develop their conversation skills in a safe, welcoming and fun group environment with a maximum of six children (minimum numbers apply). This program has been developed specifically to assist children in this age group and is led by our therapists and/or teachers. Cost for the week is $570 and may include an optional visit to your child's school.   

Available at Autism Queensland Brighton in the September school holidays.

Senior Survival Skills Workshops ‚Äč

This series of workshops is designed to provide high school students with ASD with foundational organisation and study skills to help them reach their full potential at school and beyond. They run for four hours and students can attend one, some, or all of these workshops according to their needs. Parents are also encouraged to attend. All workshops have been developed, and are delivered, by Autism Queensland's teachers and therapists. The cost for each workshop is $200 per participant.

  • The 'How to Study' Guide
  • Surviving & Thriving in Group Assignments 
  • Assignments 101

The Girls' Guide to Ruling the Internet

A program for girls' with ASD aged 13 to 16 years. Delivered over three days this program focuses on:

  • Online safety, bully busting techniques and dealing with trolls
  • Finding your YouTube personality, Creating an YouTube channel
  • Device based filmmaking using your iPhone, iPad or Android device
  • Editing skills, where to find free-to-use music and creating Special FX
  • Collaboration with other YouTubers
  • Promoting your channel or how to use YouTube's analytics, the importance of evergreen content, how to be successful on YouTube.

19, 20 & 21 September, 11am - 3pm each day
Cost: $195 + GST per student

Participants are required to bring a smartphone or iPad device that is capable of running adobe clip.

Holiday Programs

Available at our Sunnybank Hills and Brighton centres during the June-July and Christmas school holidays these programs run from 9.30am-3.00pm and include a variety of indoor/outdoor and centre-based/community-based activities. Activities are tailored to cater for the different ages and abilities of children with ASD. (Please note places are limited and fees apply.)

ALL CENTRES

Fun, Friends & Feelings 

This is a week-long, small group session for children aged 5–7 years and their parents. Activities focus on using the group environment to learn and reinforce a range of social skills including self-care, coping with stress and frustration, communicating and making friends. The program runs for 2.5 hours daily. Developed and delivered by our team of speech pathologists, occupational therapists and special educators. (Please note this program is not available in Mackay.)
