Transition to and First Year of University for Students on the Autism Spectrum
Participants required:
Individuals on the autism spectrum:
- Have a diagnosis of ASD as outlined in the DSM-5; or autism or Asperger’s syndrome as outlined in the DSM-IV TR
- have completed at least one semester (6 months) of study at an undergraduate level at an Australian university
Family members of individuals on the autism spectrum:
- Family member or carer (e.g., parent, sibling, grandparent, aunt/uncle, carer) of individual on the autism spectrum who has completed at least one semester (6 months) of study at an undergraduate level at an Australian university
Project description:
The purpose of this research is to help us to better understand the barriers and facilitators to transition to university for individuals on the autism spectrum in Australia.
Participation in this study is entirely voluntary. Participants who meet the eligibility criteria will be asked to complete an online survey about their experiences of transition to university. Participation is entirely voluntary. The URL for the online surveys will be included on the recruitment notices. The surveys should take approximately 30 – 45 minutes to complete.
A summary of the results will be made available on the Facebook page.
Benefits to participants:
It is hoped that the findings of this study will lead to improvements in provision of transition support and services for individuals on the autism spectrum when commencing university studies.
