ABOUT
If you’re considering helping your teen find a part-time job, or if they’re eager to get one but unsure where to start, this 2-part webinar is designed to guide both you and your teen through the process.
Part-time jobs can be invaluable for building self-esteem, responsibility, independence, and confidence. However, for many neurodivergent teens, finding and managing a job can be stressful and confusing.
Part 1: Navigating the Pathway to Work
- Understanding Your Teen: Support your teen in identifying their likes, dislikes, strengths, areas for growth, and what their diagnosis means to them.
- Setting Goals: Help your teen define their work goals, including where they want to work, how many hours they want to work, and their reasons for wanting to work.
- Job Matching: Discover what types of jobs align with your teen’s skills and interests.
- Finding Work: Explore where to look for part-time opportunities.
- Balancing Commitments: Learn strategies for managing work alongside other responsibilities.
Part 2: Securing and Maintaining Employment
- Writing a CV: Craft a compelling resume tailored to your teen’s strengths and experiences.
- Disclosure Decisions: Discuss whether your teen should share their diagnosis and how to advocate for workplace adjustments.
- Interview Skills: Prepare for successful interviews with practical tips.
- Job Skills: Focus on essential workplace skills, including appropriate attire, social strategies, and professional behaviour.
- Self-Advocacy: Empower your teen to advocate for themselves in the workplace.
