When a person’s behaviours are impacting on their ability to participate in activities they want or need to do, or are causing harm to themselves or others, they are called 'Behaviours of Concern'.
Finding the reason for and teaching new skills so that the person does not need to use behaviours of concern is called Positive Behaviour Support. Positive Behaviour Support looks to decrease behaviours of concern and increase the person’s quality of life.
AQ’s Behaviour Support Service consists of a functional behaviour assessment; recommendations of preventative, proactive and reactive strategies, including any assessment of restrictive practices; and the training of staff and carers in how to implement the behaviour support strategies.
The following is a breakdown of the steps required to develop or review a Positive Behaviour Support Plan conducted by a NDIS registered Behaviour Support Practitioner.

- Functional Behaviour Assessment
- Analysis and reporting
- Plan development and review (includes formulation of clinical hypothesis, proactive and reactive strategies and recommendations based on assessments conducted)
- Staff/carer implementation assistance
- Practitioner travel
Time required for PBS will vary from person to person and is determined on individual needs and goals. A minimum of 45 hours to complete the plan and 20 hours of initial training will be required to ensure the service meets your needs and adheres to NDIA standards.
There are a number of considerations that will be discussed with you within the initial intake meeting to determine if increased hours are required.

Please note: Specific multidisciplinary assessments are not included in the PBSP process. Where possible our team will work collaboratively with all services and supports involved with you, to comprehensively inform recommendations.
