CAIRNS - Practical Strategies for Teacher Aides - Part Two
Stratford Library, 11 Kamerunga Road, STRATFORD - 09:30 - 14:30
This session for teacher aides supporting students on the autism spectrum builds on information and strategies shared in the Practical Strategies for Teacher Aides workshop presented in 2018.
Participants attending this time gain an understanding and insight into the learning styles of individuals with autism and learn more about proactive strategies that can be individualised to the student, support inclusion and maximise participation.
Discussions will cover:
The importance of understanding the individual student to enhance engagement and learning outcomes
Practical strategies for your school setting
Recognising communication problems and understanding why they occur, such as following instructions, keeping up with the lesson, information overload and asking questions during lessons
Options to support students to complete work and participate in learning tasks
The importance of an individual learner profile
Effective ways to work as a team.
The facilitator will discuss examples and cases to highlight challenges and strategies which may be useful for the student. Participants will have opportunities to share tips and strategies. We encourage questions and sharing of information/ideas to enhance learning outcomes.
