Employing a Universal Design for Learning Framework to Support the Inclusion of Students on the Autism Spectrum

This session, for teachers and support staff working with students on the autism spectrum, is the first of Autism Queensland's 2019 Research to Practice series.

Participants will leave the session with a greater understanding of the Universal Design for Learning (UDL) framework and the ways in which it can help educators create a classroom environment that addresses the needs of all students, including those on the spectrum. 

Topics covered will include:

  • UDL and inclusion
  • The principles of UDL
  • What UDL might look like in practice using information based on student feedback and teacher reported strategies
  • Employing a UDL framework to break down barriers to the Australian Curriculum
  • Measuring and improving classroom acoustics 
  • Appropriate technology to use in an inclusive education setting.

  • Jeff Souter, Statewide Advisory Visiting Teacher - Assistive Technologies, Disability and Inclusion Branch, Department of Education.

This workshop is suitable for Queensland teacher CPD Annual Requirements, Australian Professional Standards for Teaching 1,2,3,4,5.
