BRISBANE - Understanding and Supporting Girls on the Autism Spectrum
Autism Queensland, 437 Hellawell Road, SUNNYBANK HILLS - 15:30 - 17:30
As there are more boys than girls diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder, much information to support these children tends to be based more around behaviours exhibited by boys. This session will explore the unique support needs of girls on the autism spectrum and specific evidence-based strategies to best support them.
Topics to be covered will include:
• Understanding the presentation of girls on the autism spectrum
• Strategies to support social success in home, school and community settings
• Supporting girls with strategies to assist with anxiety.
Examples and cases will highlight challenges and strategies which may be useful for the individual. Questions and sharing of information/ideas are encouraged and highly desirable to enhance learning outcomes for all.
This workshop is suitable for anyone interested in learning more about autism and girls on the autism spectrum.
