TOOWOOMBA - Practical Strategies for Teacher Aides - Part 2

Multi-purpose Room, Level 3, Toowoomba City Library, 155 Herries St, Toowoomba QLD 4350 - 09:30 - 14:30

This workshop is for teacher aides supporting students on the autism spectrum and builds upon information and strategies shared in Practical Strategies for Teacher Aides - Part 1.

Participants will gain an understanding and insight into the learning styles of individuals on the spectrum and learn more about proactive strategies that can be individualised to the student, support inclusion and maximise participation.

Discussions will cover:

  • The importance of understanding the individual student to enhance engagement and learning outcomes (continued use of an individual learner profile)
  • Practical strategies for your school setting
  • Recognising communication problems and understanding why they occur, such as following instructions, keeping up with the lesson, information overload and asking questions during lessons
  • Options to support students to complete work and participate in learning tasks
  • Effective ways to work as a team.

The facilitator will discuss examples and cases to highlight challenges and strategies which may be useful for the student.

Participants will have opportunities to share tips and strategies. We encourage questions and information/idea sharing to enhance learning outcomes.

Prior attendance at the Autism Queensland Practical Strategies for Teacher Aides - Part 1 Workshop is highly recommended.
