BRISBANE - Developing Social Interaction for School-aged Children with ASD
Autism Hub & Reading Centre, 141 Merton Rd, Woolloongabba Q 4102 - 12:30 - 15:30
This workshop will be interactive and include practical strategies and ideas. It will build on research, experience and what students and school staff tell us.
Healthy social relationships support children’s self-esteem and sense of belonging. Friendships also allow children to practise conversational skills, respond to feelings (their own and others) and problem solve. Social skill difficulties have a great impact on the lives of people with ASD.
This practical workshop will provide opportunities for discussion and reflection on current practice, research and the experiences of students and school staff.
Topics discussed may include:
The impacts of social challenges on individuals with ASD
Core strategies to consider when supporting social interaction
Points to consider when goal setting and prioritising social interventions.
Common programs or approaches to developing social success within individuals with ASD.
This workshop will be:
Practical & easy to understand
Drawn from current & evidence-based practice.
