AQ Staff Profile

Meet Maggy Sihlberg ... AQ School Teacher and recipient of the Service Excellence Award in the 2025 AQ Service Excellence Awards.

For Maggy, teaching is about more than what happens in the classroom—it is about helping every child feel understood, supported and ready to learn. Since joining AQ School Rockhampton when it opened 18 months ago, she has brought more than 30 years’ experience in early childhood education and a deep commitment to inclusive, neuro-affirming practice.

Beginning her career in country New South Wales, Maggy has worked across diverse settings including the Sunshine Coast and Emerald, where she served as a Foundation Kindergarten Teacher. Her professional journey has also included international experience as an Au Pair in Sweden, further enriching her understanding of children, families and cultural perspectives.

At AQ, Maggy consistently goes above and beyond to support both students and those around them. She confidently embraces complex situations, leads school events and provides steady, thoughtful leadership when it is most needed. Her classrooms are highly inclusive and neuro‑affirming, with routines and supports carefully tailored to each student’s individual strengths and needs.

Exceptionally organised and proactive, Maggy is a trusted colleague who guides and supports her team while building strong, respectful relationships with families. She contributes positively to team culture through her kindness, advocacy and unwavering belief in every child’s potential.

Maggy is especially passionate about the early years and the important role they play in each child’s learning, development and confidence. She is committed to inclusion and supporting children of all abilities to learn, grow and thrive. For Maggy, working at AQ School has been an opportunity to share her extensive experience while continuing to learn alongside her students—bringing curiosity, compassion and a lifelong learner mindset to everything she does.
