Positive Behaviour Guidance Workshops
Autism Queensland (AQ) is pleased to offer Positive Behaviour Guidance Workshops to early childhood services including kindergartens, long day care, family day care and out of hours school care, as part of the Queensland Government’s Early Childhood Guidance program pilot.
Educators and teachers working in these settings can now access foundational and extension workshops, webinars and tailored resources to integrate theory into practice. Additional resources, such as follow up webinars, information papers and tip sheets, will also be available.
This is a free and accessible service that aims to enhance the skills, confidence and knowledge of early childhood teachers and educators in using Positive Behaviour Guidance strategies in their settings.
Our Workshops
In our Foundational Learning Workshop, we explore:
- An introduction to Positive Behaviour Guidance: In this topic, participants will gain an insight into what positive behaviour guidance looks like in practice, and the outcomes and benefits of this approach.
- Understanding Behaviour: By gaining a foundational understanding of behaviour, educators will be encouraged to become curious about the unmet needs of the children they support and what they are communicating through their behaviour.
- Positive Relationships: This topic explores inclusive and trauma-informed strategies to forming positive, respectful relationships with children. We focus on connection before correction and ways to strategically use opportunities in your busy days to prioritise connection.
- Regulation: The facilitator will unpack the neuroscience behind regulation and what this looks like for children in early childhood settings. This topic highlights the importance of guiding children through co-regulation.
- Setting the Scene for Success: This topic focuses on the belief that “kids do well if they can” and is a collaborative opportunity to proactively plan for meeting children’s needs and creating an environment where they can succeed.
Extension Workshops will be available 4-6 months to educators and teachers who have completed the Foundational Learning Workshop to extend their knowledge, support online learning and application to practice.
We recommend educators and teachers working directly with children are supported to attend so they can apply these valuable learnings in their own environments.
